Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary is named after the Mehao Lake a beautiful natural lake covering an area of almost 4 sq.km at an altitude of 1640 msl 15 km from Roing town. This green mountain belt is paradise for nature lover and birdwatchers. This sanctuary is thinly populated and most of the area is hilly and clothed with tropical evergreen forest. There is only all weather road passing through the sanctuary from Roing to Hunli varying the altitude from 300 m to 2600 msl. Very much popular for road side birding, walking through the road followed by vehicle.

Mammals: The entire whole area is home of many rare animals like Tiger, Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Snow Leopard, Leopard Cat, Jungle Cat, Fishing Cat, Himalayan Black Bear, Stumptail Macaque, Assamese Macaque, Slow Loris, Hoolock Gibbn, Asiantic Elephant, Mishmi Takin, Musk Deer, Serow, Goral, Musk Deer, Red Panda, Gaur etc.
Birds: The fauna is also very rich and varieties of birds species are found in this sanctuary. More than 200 species of birds have been identified from this diverse habited. Most Important bird species include Blyth's Trogopan, Rufous-necked Hornbill, Purple Wood-Pigeon, Temmink's Tragopen, Monal Pheasant, Longtailed Broadbill, Green Magpie, Red Headed Laughing Thrust, White Throated Red Start, Whitnaped Yuhina etc.
